When you are a member at NAOBC, no matter where God takes you, the love for NAOBC remains. It’s part of your DNA. Periodically we’ll spotlight women who were former members – see where they are today and what NAOBC means to them. Today we’re meeting Michelle Fischer.
Q: Tell a little about yourself – family, occupation (if applicable), etc.
A: Our family is currently serving at LeTourneau Christian Center in Rushville, NY. My husband, Jamie, is the director and the rest of us pitch in wherever needed (dining hall, kitchen, housekeeping, snack shop, camp counselors, discipleship…). I homeschool our five kids (Savannah, 16; Annabelle, 15; Josiah, 13; Piper, 11; Shiloh, almost 8). I also teach the youth Sunday school class at our local church.
Q: When did you attend NAOBC? What brought you to NAOBC?
A: I came to Louisville for a summer internship in 2002 and lived in the apartments across the street from NAOBC. A couple of friends had just started attending there so I joined them. Jamie was already attending there and five months later we were married and stayed until he graduated from seminary in 2005.
Q: Where did you serve while at NAOBC?
A: While at NAOBC we were involved with the Singles Ministry, Nursing Home Ministry, and then because we were newlyweds Beth Blackwell roped us into serving in the nursery 😂
Q: What memory from your time at NAOBC means the most to you still today?
A: NAOBC played and even continues to play an important part in our life. It’s where Jamie and I began our life together, now 20 years ago! We started dating shortly after I came to Louisville. Jeff Elieff did our pre-marital counseling, as well as Shane and Jennie Harchfield. Shane (who taught the singles Sunday school class at the time) officiated our wedding. Nine years after we left NAOBC, we served overseas with the Harchfield and Herre families (who had also attended and served at NAOBC). Although now spread across the country and world, we still keep in touch with several other families we met during our time at NAOBC.
Q: What is one thing you loved about NAOBC?
A: One thing I loved about NAOBC was that the love for the Word and Glory of God was evident in everything they did. Every pastor, every teacher loved the Lord and desired to make Him known to His people. The community and encouragement of believers there I’ve rarely experienced elsewhere.
